Fake Psychic Reader Arrest for 2004 Scam
New Orleans, Louisianna – Kenner police arrested a woman living in Cleveland, Tennessee for a fortune-telling scam that had her on the wanted list since 2004.
Debra Marks worked as a psychic reader in Kenner five years ago, when she defrauded a 51-yearold woman of $51,645 worth of jewelry and money. She scammed the Metairie woman that she and her parents would die unless a curse on her was removed. Marks acquired the valuables during a nine-month period, where she told the woman she would cleanse the items of the curse and return them once the curse was removed.
When the woman suspected that Marks was scamming her, she demanded for the return of her jewelry and money. Marks refused and moved to Tennessee, where she resumed her post as a psychic reader.
Kenner police received a tip from Crimestoppers and asked the help of US Marshal Service and Tennessee authorities in apprehending Marks.
Marks has also been arrested for theft in Baton Ruoge in 1999. She was booked on charges of taking $5,410 via a scam to remove a curse. She was operating under the name Sister Gabrielle. She received a 3-year suspended sentence and was placed under probation.
She was booked for the 2004 case last Thursday and was released on Friday from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with a commercial bond of $50,000.
