Google Sky Map: A New Tool for Astrologers

Fans of astrology are in for a treat. Google officially launched Sky Map on Tuesday. This astrology-oriented Android app is able to display constellations by using a smartphone’s GPS capabilities.

Originally developed under the name “Star Droid”, the app lets you view a labeled map of the sky through your Android phone. It combines GPS data, compass data, accelerometer, date and time information.

According to Google’s official blog, if you “point your phone upwards you will see a map of the brightest stars, constellations and planets as part of the sky.” Google Sky map can help you find the specific location of celestial bodies. For example, if you type in “Mars”, your phone will direct you to its current location. The display will update as you move around, letting you find the exact placement of the planets.
