Infant Sacrificed for Hidden Treasure: Accused Gets Life Sentence
What can be more inhuman than sacrificing an infant to acquire hidden wealth?
In Bhopal, a man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sacrificing a two and a half-year-old boy in his desire to find some hidden treasure.
Mahesh Kurmi had killed the son of Chatar Singh, Shrikanth. The boy had been missing from the Aabchand village. This was according to additional public prosecutor Ramavtar Tiwari. A day after the boy went missing, the police found his mutilated body buried under a pile of stones at Dasoi Baba.
The body was headless and it bore injury marks. The head was also found but the ears had been cut off. By the way it looked, the killing was a way of sacrifice in the occult rituals.
After the police arrested Mahesh, he eventually admitted to have killed the boy to “appease the gods”.
There have already been a lot of crimes like this in Madhya Pradesh. The reasons are all the same—to find hidden treasures. However, these have not been documented as these have not been reported to the police.
According to a senior police official, “Hunting for hidden treasure in this backward state is not a new thing. Cases of killing for treasure too are not uncommon. But what is a cause of concern is the frequency with which such cases are coming to light. Another factor baffling us is that the trend is shifting from the illiterate rural areas to the literate urban.”
