Psychic Experiment to be Conducted via Twittter
Popular social messaging site Twitter will be the venue of a global psychic test this week. The test will be conducted by University of Hertfordshire professor Richard Wiseman. Twitter users will be asked to correctly guess a location from five photographs. The professor plans to travel to a mystery U.K. site, where he will send a tweet to ask users to identify his chosen spot. A website link will be sent where they can vote on a set of five photos – one being the actual location and the rest decoys.
The test is being conducted in collaboration with New Scientist magazine. It will kick-off on Tuesday and will be running until Friday for different locations each day. The test hopes to investigate remote viewing – or the psychic ability to identify distant locations.
“The instant nature of Tweets allows thousands of people to take part in real time, making it perfect for an extra-sensory perception experiment. If the effect does exist then having so many people participate will help detect it,” said Wiseman. He adds that there is a 1:125 chance that Twitter users will correctly guess three out of four sites.
Anyone can take part in the experiment by visiting twitter.com/RichardWiseman. Wiseman hopes as many as 10,000 people will participate in the research.
