Psychics and Ghost Hunters Raise funds for Fort Ontario
The Central New York Ghost Hunters and Friends of Fort Ontario worked together to bring to the public the first-ever public ghost hunt. The activity aims to raise funds to help keep the historic site operating.
The event featured CNY Ghost Hunters founder Stacey Jones, psychic Chip Coffey, and demonologist John Zaffis.
CNY Ghost Hunters investigated the fort about six years ago, where News Channel 10 spent the night with the group. Jones says that the Friends of Fort Ontario is one of the few historic groups in the state that is receptive to her group conducting fundraisers at their site.
During the most recent ghost hunt, Coffey and Zaffis felt that there was a lot of paranormal activity occurring in the Officers Quarters No. 1. “There’s a quite of activity going on in there,” said Zaffis “This casemate over here has a tremendous amount of activity in it.”
The ghost hunt attendees numbered a total of 155 people. Paul Lear, historic site manager for Fort Ontario, estimates the event raised roughly $9,000. “That’s pretty good,” he added. “We can help continue our restoration project and restock our museum gift shop supply.”
“This is something we would like to do on a regular basis for Fort Ontario,” says Jones. “This is something we’re trying to do to keep the place open … it’s not about us and what we are going to get, it’s about how we’re going to keep these places open.”
