The Haunting in Connecticut: Mixing Psychic with Horror

In his first feature film, director Peter Cornwell mixes together clairvoyance with horror. The movie offers the usual horror film formula with creaking floorboards, slamming doors, flickering lights and a ghost or two in the mirror.

Based on a true story, it tells of a family who moves into a charming Victorian home, only to find out later that it was formerly a funeral parlor. The main character Sara Cambell decides to uproot her family to move to a hospital where her teenage son Matt is receiving cancer treatments. As the story unfolds, Matt’s psychic powers develops and eventually results in him seeing more of the angry ghosts.

Apparently, some gruesome events happened in house. Matt’s visions could be due to a new drug cocktail he’s taking as part of clinical trials. However, it may also be a psychic connection with the long-dead Jonah, a clairvoyant teenage who took part in the inhumane rituals.

The film stars Virginia Madsen (Candyman, Sideways), Martin Donovan, Elias Koteas and Kyle Gallner. The script was written by Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe. This Lionsgate release is rated PG-13. Running time: 92 minutes.
