Voo-doo Economics? Psychic, Astrologers see a boom in uncertain times
WATERTOWN — Dee Randis sits at her computer, typing information into the system as the planets on her monitor align.
Randis, an astrologer for 20 years, is on the telephone with a woman worried about her husband’s job and financial security.
“He should consider starting his own business,” Randis says, looking intently at the planets. “From home. He is going to see a lot of changes in his life over the next few months.”
Psychics and astrologers are getting a lot of questions from people worried about the economy. They want to know whether their jobs are secure, what will happen to their savings and whether they should get a resume ready.
“People are very worried,” said Randis, who owns the Metaphysical/Holistic Center on Depot Street in Watertown. “They don’t understand what’s going on, and they’re trying to find direction.”
Jennifer Evans, owner of Psychic Readings of Cheshire, said people come asking about everything from relationships to investments.
“A lot of people are frightened about their jobs,” she said. “I get a lot of questions like, ‘When is the best time to invest? When will it change? When is the time to take money out of my 401(k)?”
