Witch Tax to be Imposed in Romania
International reports say that witches in Romania, astrologers, valets, fortune tellers, and models have recently been included in the classification of professional trades by the government. This move means that people holding the aforementioned jobs need to declare their income and pay their taxes. According to the government, this move is part of its program to prevent tax evasion. However, this has also solicited mixed reactions from the concerned people most especially from the witches and astrologers.
Maria Sarbu, an astrologer, says “astrologers are seen as riddles, like wizards and so on. Most astrologers do things with passion. So, perhaps the government will get more passion than money, because not so many people come to the astrologer.” Furthermore, people see that this move will not help add income to the government.
A witch named Alisia says that this tax imposition is foolish since there is nothing to tax. After all, they earn nothing.
Another witch named Bratara Buzea says, “the people who run this country lead it with their head upside down. Yes, I agree, let them open witches practices for us, to test everyone of us, see what one can do. We do need a pension too, after all. If you give something, you got to get back something. It’s not the state who taught us witchcraft. There’s no school where you can learn witchcraft.”
Buzea added that if this plan is imposed and they are charged tax, witches will cast a spell on the lawmakers. She added that the spell would involve dog feces with a little touch of soil and black pepper.
This plan has to be thought well by the Romanian government officials and lawmakers. But if this pushes through, then that leaves the witches and astrologers no choice but to obey.
