In addition to angles, aspects and nodes in Astrology, there are also terms used to define placements in the sky. The following are some astrological sign positions that you should be familiar with to interpret your chart:

Arcronical place – The position of a planet opposite the sun. It comes from the Greek word akronychos, at sunset.

Anaretic place – between 29 and 30 degrees or the final degree of any sign. It is also called the degree of fate.

Aphetic places – parts of the horoscope ranging from 5 degrees above the Ascendant to 25 degree below it, from 5 degrees below the descendant to 25 degrees above and from 4 degrees preceding the ninth house cusp to the middle of the eleventh house. Also called hylegiacal places.

Conjunction
– formed when two planets occupy a close position in the zodiac, usually within an 8 degree orb.

Aphelion – The point in a planet’s orbit when it is farthest from the sun.

Angles:

Ascendant - This is the angle rising over the eastern horizon at a particular moment in time. It is also known as the rising sun.

Midheaven - This is the angel where the ecliptic crosses the Meridian in the south on the northern hemisphere. It is also called medium coeli or zenith.

Nodes:

Nodes are not common to all traditions of astrology, but they are important in Vedic astrology. There are basically two types of nodes, the ascending node and the descending node. They are referred to as the Dragon’s Head or Tail or simply nodal axis, lunar nodes or the moon’s nodes.

The Three Qualities in Astrology

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

In astrology, there are three main qualities. This is the second major classification that defines the nature of the sign (the first being the Elements). The qualities assign the signs to quadruplicities or three groups of four. The quadruplicities of astrological signs are sometimes referred to as crosses because each quality forms a cross when drawn across the zodiac.

Unlike the natural tendency of signs with the same element to work together smoothly, signs with the same quality generally do not complement each other.

The cardinal sign is associated with Aries Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. It is often related to initiation, action, leadership and creativity. People born under this zodiac can also be somewhat stubborn, selfish and demanding. Cardinal signs are also sometimes called movable signs as they initiate a change of temperate zone season when the sun makes its annual passage into them. The Cardinal houses are the First, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth

Fixed signs include Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. These are said to relate to focus, concentration, strength, stamina, perseverance, individuality and determination. Fixed signs are at the height of the four seasons. People born under fixed signs are said to be natural leaders who are both loyal and self-confident, however they can also be stubborn. The Fixed houses are Second, Fifth, Eighth and Eleventh

The arrow – which means action or direction

They are combined to create glyphs of the sun, the moon and the planets.

The 12 Houses of the Horoscope

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Most people have heard of the 12 signs of zodiac, but few have knowledge about the 12 houses. An astrological signs chart for determining the horoscope, begins with a framework of 12 houses.

The position of the houses depends on time and location rather than on dates. It is said to represent the spheres of life. These are divisions of the path of the sun across the sky (also called the ecliptic plane) as seen form the earth. They are numbered counter-clockwise from the eastern horizon. The first six houses are below the horizon, while the next six sit above it.

The Babylonians are said to be the first to use the twelve houses. The 12 houses are as follows:

1.Vita – The House of Self is usually associated with beginnings.
2.Lucrum – The House of Value pertains to both material and immaterial things, and also pertains to self-worth.
3.Fratres – The House of Communications represents the childhood environment as well as family such as siblings. The English translation of the word is “brothers”
4.Genitor – House of Home and Family, this can represent ancestry and heritage. In English, it means “parents”
5.Nati – House of Pleasure is associated with things for enjoyment, it may include leisure activities or passion and love.

Pisces - Last of the zodiacs

Pisces is the twelfth and the last of the zodiac signs. This water sign originates from the Pisces constellation and is ruled by the planet Jupiter. Some modern astrologers contest that Neptune is the rightful planetary ruler of this star sign.

It is represented by a pair of fish facing opposite directions. As it is a watery astrological sign, it is associated with both positive and negative traits. Pisces born individuals are said to be imaginative, sensitive, compassionate and kind. However, they can also be unrealistic, secretive and easily swayed. The opposing directions of the fish can signify a sense of duality.

Pisceans are generally gentle, charitable and patient. It is the zodiac sign of the good-natured. They are said to be selfless and spiritual. They symbolic fish can also suggest that they go with the flow and are easy-going.
