Types of Numerology

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Numerology has been around for ages. In its early years, it was considered a form of mathematics. But it later deviated to the divinatory arts and is often associated with the occult. Numerology is still popularly practiced today and is strongly rooted in different traditions.

You’ll find that there are many types of numerology practices out there – some very loyal to their origins, others a mixture of different traditions and beliefs. Three of the most popular include:

1. Chaldean Numerology – This type of numerology is based on the Ancient Babylonian tradition. It takes aspects of astrology in its interpretation of numbers. Nine is considered a holy number and compound numbers are highly regarded. For this type of numerology, both the name and the birth date are analysed. Most practitioners of this type of numerology would take the name one is commonly known by instead of the birth name.

Numerology and Our Everyday Lives

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

It is said that we are all meant for something greater. We each have our destiny carved out for us even before our birth. Numerology is one of the things that could guide us towards discovering the greater things that we are meant to do.

While each of us can actually shape and influence our own future, numerology can serve as a good indicator of where we are now and where we can be. Basically, this numbers-based art derives particular numbers from one’s full name or date, time and location of birth. These numbers are then broken down to their very basic forms – either a single digit number or a double-digit master number.

In numerology, certain combinations make up your essential numbers. There’s your life path number (derived from all your birth date numbers), destiny number (derived via the values of your full birth name), Soul number (derived via the vowels of your full birth name), personality number (derived via the consonants of your full birth name) and much more.

Numerology and Compatibility

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Most relationship reports you’ll find today are based on your astrological compatibility. In fact, it is an art – called synastry — that is thoroughly studied by some for its intricacies and interesting outcomes. Here, relationships are compared based on the couple’s natal horoscopes.

Though not as popular in this aspect as astrology, numerology can hold its own when it comes to determining a couple’s compatibility. Numerology can say a lot about an individual. Their life number is derived by adding the single digits in one’s date of birth until a resulting number of either 1 to 9, 11 or 22 is reached.

For instance, someone who is born on August 21, 1977 will have the life number 8. August is represented by the number 8. So 8+2+1+1+9+7+7 = 35. This is then broken down into 3+5 = 8.

This number is then said to represent certain characteristics in a person. In the given example, we calculated for the Life Path Number of the person. This resents the path the person will be taking and his or her skills that could make the journey rewarding.

Numerology: The Master Numbers

Friday, August 7th, 2009

In numerology, there is something called the Master Numbers. Most traditions only count 11 and 22 as the master numbers, but other numerologist include all repeating double digit numbers including 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 and 99.

Master numbers in numerology indicate nearly complete or complete development of the traits associated with the number. Freedom and responsibility are part of the burden of having the Master Number appear in one or more essential numerology figures. You have the freedom to choose whether you should allow the Master Number traits to be dominant, but in doing so you must act responsibly towards this choice. You may also completely ignore the power of the Master Number, and in turn, you will not fully realize your own strengths. Doing this may hinder you from accomplishing your true mission in life.

If harnessed correctly, the power of the Master Numbers can make a life-changing turn for some. However, as a caveat, it is also the same people who experience the most challenges in life.

Numerology: Your Essential Numbers

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Numerology is one of the ancient systems that were highly used for divination. Like the historical relationship between astrology and astronomy, alchemy and chemistry, numerology has gone into the realm of pseudomathematics. In earlier times, it was considered part of mathematics. Today, however, it is more associated with the occult.

In essence, numerology takes into account how the numerical system represents a relationship with objects or living things. Often, numerologists would plot a person’s full name of full birth date to get the numbers essential to a person. With numerology, one can:

  • Learn the challenges that they need to overcome
  • Identify peak moments in their life
  • Explore special talents and skills
  • Discover hidden abilities.

Numerology and Movies

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Despite its enigmatic background, numerology is actually quite omnipresent in pop culture. Said to be the most difficult of divination methods, numerology uses different methods to interpret the birth numbers and names. Among the most popular are the alphabet system, the Pythagorean system and Chinese numerology report.

However difficult it may seem, numerology has been used as a plot device in fiction several times. Some movies that have featured numerology concepts include:

1.Pi (∏) – The 1998 movie directed by Darren Aronfsky stars Sean Gullette, Mark Margolis, Ben Shenkman, Pamela Heart and Stephen Pearlman. The story revolves around Maximillian Cohen, a mathematician who tries to unlock universal patterns found in nature via the key number known as pi. The film is in black and white, which adds to the mystique of this numerology and psychic centered movie.
2.23 – Also release in 1998, this movie is based on the story of a group of young hackers from Hannover, Germany. It is directed by Hans-Christian Smid and stars August Diehl, Fabian Busch, Dieter Landuris, Jan Gregor Kremp and others.
