Cancer is the fourth astrological sign of the Zodiac. It originates from the constellation Cancer. It is considered a negative (introvert), feminine sign. Cancer is also said to be a water sign and has cardinal modality. It is symbolized by a crab. The glyph used to represent Cancer is sometimes thought of as breasts that symbolize their nurturing quality, other look at it as the crab’s claws.
Cancer is ruled by the moon. Under the tropical zodiac, individuals born from the 22nd of June to the 22nd of July, when the sun enters the summer solstice are of the Cancer horoscope. For sidereal zodiac followers, Cancer roughly begins from July 16 to August 15.

Horoscopes are based on two types of zodiacs. Vedic astrology is dependent on the sidereal zodiac, while western astrology follows the tropical zodiac. Sidereal astrology follows the original constellations upon which the zodiac signs are based. Tropical astrology, on the other hand, uses the tropics as a point of reference.
Several millennia since early astrologers plotted the star signs, the tropics are said to have drifted away from the constellations due to the precession of the equinoxes.
Unlike its sidereal counterpart, tropical zodiacs are said to have a more symbolic or metaphoric meaning. The star signs of the sidereal astrology are more instrinsic in meaning.

The Vedic tradition of astrology uses sidereal zodiac which links the twelve signs of zodiac to their original constellations. The western horoscope, on the other hand, follows the topical zodiac. The difference is basically rooted in the precession of the equinoxes. Over the centuries, the twelve zodiac signs of the topical zodiac no longer correspond to the same part of the sky as their original constellation.
The mapping of the zodiacs in sidereal astrology is essentially different from topical zodiac, which makes the dates that are associated with the horoscopes different as well.
The following is a break down of the sidereal vs the topical date of the constellations:

In astrology, there are three main qualities. This is the second major classification that defines the nature of the sign (the first being the Elements). The qualities assign the signs to quadruplicities or three groups of four. The quadruplicities of astrological signs are sometimes referred to as crosses because each quality forms a cross when drawn across the zodiac.
Unlike the natural tendency of signs with the same element to work together smoothly, signs with the same quality generally do not complement each other.
The cardinal sign is associated with Aries Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. It is often related to initiation, action, leadership and creativity. People born under this zodiac can also be somewhat stubborn, selfish and demanding. Cardinal signs are also sometimes called movable signs as they initiate a change of temperate zone season when the sun makes its annual passage into them. The Cardinal houses are the First, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth
Fixed signs include Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. These are said to relate to focus, concentration, strength, stamina, perseverance, individuality and determination. Fixed signs are at the height of the four seasons. People born under fixed signs are said to be natural leaders who are both loyal and self-confident, however they can also be stubborn. The Fixed houses are Second, Fifth, Eighth and Eleventh

People have varied ways of understanding what a horoscope is. Some think it is just what they read in magazines and newspapers as anecdotes related to zodiac signs. Others take it more seriously and believe in its power of divination. Others relate the word to the Chinese horoscope that bases predictions on your year of birth and your animal sign.
Traditionally speaking, a horoscopes is a chart of the celestial bodies during a certain event and as seen from a certain place on Earth. The geocentric reading of the stars is most often related to the moment of a person’s birth.
Today, the word horoscope is loosely used to refer to the interpretation behind the charting. The star sign is as important as the process of creating the horoscope itself.

Western astrology is significantly different from Eastern astrology. Western astrology relies heavily on the 12 signs of the horoscope and plotting the birth chart. Some concepts you may come across when studying Western astrology include the native, celestial spheres, the plane of the equator, the plane of the ecliptic, the plane of the horizon, angles, houses and much more.
When constructing horoscope using Western Astrology, one has to base the analysis on the birth of the subject. For a more detailed analysis, a natal chart can be generated using the exact time and place of birth. This is then translated as Universal Time and converted into local sidereal time. The ephemeris determines the positions of certain celestial bodies during the time of birth. Mathematical equations are used to measure angles.

Horoscopes are commonly associated with your zodiac sign, which then corresponds to a specific range of dates. If you are looking for a astrology or psychic reading that is more is customized to you, one way is to get your natal chart. This is an astrological mapping based on the exact time of a person’s birth at a particular place on Earth.
For a more accurate horoscope, birth time may also be included in the calculation. This helps the reader plot more precise primary chart angles. If the time of birth is not readily available, a solar chart may be used instead. For this type of horoscopes generation, the position of the sun at midnight or at noon can be sued as the time of birth.
A natal chart is unique to you. It is extremely rare for two people to have the same birth charts – even twins are have different ones due to one child being born before the other.
